Design approach

The design approach focused on creating a flexible and immersive spatial experience that transitions seamlessly from day to night. Zoning was carefully planned to balance open social areas with more intimate seating pockets, allowing diverse user experiences within a single floor plate. Materiality and lighting were used as primary tools to establish mood — raw finishes and dark backdrops are softened through warm lighting, textured surfaces, and curated décor elements, resulting in a space that feels bold yet comfortable.

Key design moves

  • Strong central bar as the visual and social anchor of the space
  • Clear zoning between dining, bar seating, and lounge clusters
  • Industrial materials balanced with warm wood and upholstered seating
  • Layered lighting strategy to shift ambience from daytime dining to nightlife.
  • Custom furniture and finishes designed for durability and high footfall.
  • Branding integrated subtly through textures, lighting, and spatial rhythm.

Outcome

The completed project delivers a bold yet welcoming hospitality environment that resonates with the local urban crowd. Joynt Craft Bar & Kitchen successfully balances aesthetics with operational efficiency, supporting high-energy service hours while maintaining guest comfort. The design enhances brand identity, improves dwell time, and establishes Joynt as a distinctive destination within Rajarajeshwarinagar’s evolving food and beverage landscape.

Design & technical notes

Material choices prioritise tactile Mediterranean character and long-term durability: lime-wash and textured plaster for walls, hard-wearing stone-effect tiles for service aisles, and engineered timbers for furniture. Lighting strategy combines warm accent pendants, concealed cove washes and dimmable downlights to tailor mood for daytime brunches and evening service.

  • Service-first layout with clear back-of-house circulation and accessible service points at the bar.
  • Custom furniture designed for quick turnover and comfortable linger — modular banquettes, robust tables.
  • Integrated acoustic treatment hidden within ceilings and soft furnishings to control reverberation.
  • Detailed lighting schedule with layered controls for scene-setting and energy efficiency.

Execution highlights

  • Concept pack with plan layouts, 3D views and finish schedules for client review.
  • FF&E sourcing recommendations and supplier contacts for bespoke pieces.
  • Operational testing of circulation and service ergonomics during fitout planning.
