Design & delivery approach

Our team focused on robust detailing and low-maintenance planting. Hardscape and softscape were resolved to allow clear pedestrian flows, security sightlines and accessible seating while introducing microclimates through planted canopies and misted planters.

Key outcomes

  • Integrated terraces and seating pockets to reduce perceived crowding and offer quiet zones.
  • Durable paving & drainage design for heavy footfall and monsoon resilience.
  • Native and drought-tolerant planting to minimise irrigation needs and support biodiversity.
  • LED lighting with task and wayfinding luminaires to improve safety while reducing energy use.

Technical notes

Structural coordination with the terminal and services was a key constraint. We used modular planter boxes with integrated irrigation valves, and detailed thresholds for slip-resistance and stormwater management.

  • Sub-surface drainage with slot drains to prevent pooling around seating pockets.
  • Modular timber seating with stainless steel fixings for longevity and ease of replacement.
  • Planting strategy focused on native mixes and maintenance access routes for horticultural teams.

Execution highlights

  • Phased handovers to allow partial terminal operations without disruption.
  • On-site mockups for paving and seating finishes to confirm textures and user comfort.
  • Close coordination with airport safety, security and operations teams through all stages.
