Elevation — Sahakarnagar House

A contemporary facade redesign for a private house in Sahakarnagar emphasizing street presence, solar shading and material tactility suited to Bengaluru's climate.

Project overview

Sahakarnagar House — Elevation is a focused facade upgrade to refresh the home's street identity, improve solar control and integrate a modest landscape buffer. The design balances a clean contemporary language with locally-appropriate materials and detailing for easy maintenance.

Location: Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru
Scope: Elevation & minor landscape works
Status: Completed
Client: Private homeowners

Design approach

We developed a layered facade strategy — a primary volumetric form softened with planted screens and articulated openings. The palette uses light-toned cement plaster, warm timber accents and perforated metal screens to control sunlight and create privacy without losing connection to the street.

Key design moves

  • Compositional clarity: strong horizontal datum and vertical moments to frame views and entrances.
  • Perforated metal screens and timber louvers for daylight modulation and privacy.
  • Ground-level planting buffer and recessed entrance to reduce heat gain and enhance arrival.
  • Robust, low-maintenance materials specified for exposed surfaces.

Outcome

The new elevation delivers a calm, contemporary street presence and improved thermal comfort inside the house. Detailed shop drawings and finish schedules were supplied to the contractor to ensure accurate execution.

Design & technical notes

Facade materials were chosen for durability and minimal upkeep: cement-lime render with a light pigment, sealed timber cladding for accents, and powder-coated perforated metal for screens. Details focus on rain control, fixings that allow for thermal movement, and a recessed threshold to protect the entrance.

  • Shading strategy using fixed louvers and screens to reduce direct solar gain on west-facing surfaces.
  • Stainless-steel and powder-coated metalwork specified for long-term corrosion resistance.
  • Drainage and flashing details coordinated to avoid staining and water ingress.
  • Exterior lighting designed for safety and to accent architectural planes at night.

Execution highlights

  • Construction-ready elevation drawings with material keys and connection details.
  • On-site mock-up approved for the timber screening system and paint finish.
  • Coordination with MEP team for concealed downpipes and service access panels.
  • Maintenance manual and seasonal upkeep recommendations provided to the client.
