Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Garden
A green sanctuary within the NIMHANS campus — a place where tall shade trees, quiet pathways and fresh air come together to offer patients, families and staff a moment of calm. Built with care by Vemula Groups.
CompletedAbout the project
Vemula Groups developed the Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Garden at NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences), Bengaluru. Named in honour of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, the visionary Maharaja of Mysore, the garden is designed as a healing landscape — a peaceful, open-air retreat set beneath a canopy of mature trees, right in the heart of one of India's most respected healthcare campuses.
Project description
Nature has a quiet way of healing. With that belief at its core, the Sri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Garden was shaped to give the NIMHANS community a space to slow down, breathe and reconnect. Visitors enter through a graceful archway carrying the garden's name in Kannada, Hindi and English, flanked by green ornamental gates and lamp posts that welcome everyone in.
Beyond the entrance, a clean, well-defined pathway leads beneath the cool shade of old, towering trees. Neatly finished kerb borders, rows of potted plants and lush tropical greenery line the route, creating a setting that feels both orderly and alive. Every element was planned to preserve the existing trees while making the garden safe, accessible and easy to maintain for years to come.
Design & Execution Approach
- Landscape planning that protects and celebrates the mature tree canopy
- Grand entrance arch with trilingual name signage and ornamental steel gates
- Smooth, clearly defined walkways with painted kerb edging
- Potted plants, tropical greenery and seasonal planting along the route
- Decorative lamp posts and fencing for safety and a welcoming evening look
- Careful execution within a live hospital campus with minimal disruption
Where it is
The garden sits within the NIMHANS campus in Bengaluru, offering a green, peaceful pause just steps away from the hospital's busy blocks.
